Cultural-historical tours are circular trips around the country from seven to fourteen days. Tourists will also visit the workshop of an artisan specialized in «khachkar» carving (Armenian cross stones carved by hand from a single piece of stone with amazing decorations and ornaments), a carpet factory, where only hand-weaving technologies have been used since ancient times. Airport “Zvartnots” – Yerevan – Erebuni – city tour
Yerevan arrival. Transfer to the hotel.
Tour of the capital Yerevan known as the “pink city” because of pinkish tufa stone used in the construction of the buildings. The city of Yerevan is one of the ancient cities in the world.
The major sites include: Erebuni Fortress built during the ancient kingdom of Urartu, located in what is present-day Yerevan. It was one of several fortresses built along the northern Urartian border and was one of the most important political, economic and cultural centers of the vast kingdom. The name Yerevan itself is derived from Erebuni. Visit the Republic Square, the Cascade area – the center of the modern arts, Opera House, the “Haghtanak Park” – the park of Victory (dedicated to the World War II victory), the Mother Armenia monument. Yerevan – Hovhanavank – Saghmosavank – Amberd/Oshakan monastery – Yerevan
A trip to the region of Aragatsotn. On the way to Ashtarak there is a stunning view of the extinct volcanoes Aragats (4090 m) and Arailer (3560 m). Admire the impressive gorge of the river Kasakh and visit the monastery of Saghmosavank (the monastery of Psalms XIII c.) located on the edge of Kasakh canyon. The tour continues to Hovhanavank monastery (the monastery of St John the Baptist) which has buildings dating from IV to XIII cc.
Through spectacular scenery you reach to a medieval Amberd Fortress ( meaning fortress in the clouds) located on the slope of Mt Aragats at 2300 m above sea level. The location is truly fascinating. Amberd was a significant fortress on the Silk Route and was one of the strongholds that controlled access to Ani, the ancient capital of Armenia/Continue to Oshakan to visit the church and the tomb of St. Mesrop Mashtots – the inventor of the Armenian alphabet. Return to Yerevan. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
- If weather conditions do not allow going to Amberd, as an alternative you will visit the church in Oshakan.
Yerevan – Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni-1 (Bird’s cave) - Areni – Yerevan
Visit Khor Virap monastery situated in front of Biblical Mt. Ararat, on the left side of Arax River. The monastery is famous for its dungeon where St Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned. Visit Noravank Monastery (XIV c.), nestled among the spectacular mountains: the religious center of Syunik province.
At the entrance to the gorge on the right there is an unornamented cave, called Trchuneri Karayr (Bird Cave). Excavations in Bird Cave (Areni Cave) have uncovered large clay pots and jugs that have been dated to around 3500-3900 BC. The settlement is said to be the world’s earliest large-scale wine making facility ever found. Proceed to Areni village famous for its various wineries and home-made wines. Visit the local winery to have a tour, followed by a tasting. Back to Yerevan. Dinner at a restaurant with folk music.

Yerevan – Echmiatsin – St Hripsime – St Gayane – Zvartnots – Genocide Memorial & Museum – Vernisage
Depart for the region of Armavir. Visit the Mother Cathedral of St. Echmiadzin, one of the first Christian churches in the world (301-303 A.D) founded by Gregory the Illuminator. It is the Holy See of the Armenian Catholicos (the Supreme Patriarch) and the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. UNESCO recognized it as the World Heritage Site. Afterwards proceed to visit St Hripsime and St Gayane churches built in the VII c. Continue to explore the temple of Zvartnots (means “Vigil forces” or “Celestial Angels”) built in 7th century. Return to Yerevan to visit the Memorial and Museum of the Armenian Genocide.
Afterwards, continue to Vernissage an open air market where different kinds of items can be found: national crafts, jewelry, carpets, woodworks, ceramics, canvases, paintings, and many other works of arts and crafts. Dinner

Yerevan – Lake Sevan – Haghartsin – Goshavank – Yerevan
Depart for the region of Gegharkunik. Visit the Lake Sevan known as the pearl of Armenia located about 1900m above sea level - the largest lake of the Transcaucasia. In 874 A.D. Princess Mariam built two churches on the top of the Sevan Island (now peninsula). Afterwards continue via Dilijan town to visit the medieval monasteries of Haghartsin and Goshavank. Goshavank monastery (XII-XIII cc.) was considered one of the main cultural centers of medieval Armenia. The monastery of Haghartsin (XIII c.) is unique with its natural surroundings, as it situated deep in a thick forest. Return to Yerevan. Dinner
Overnight in Yerevan.
- Big buses do not reach to the monastery of Haghartsin and there is about 500 meters of walk through a beautiful forest.
- To visit the monastery of Sevan we have to climb 200 steps (steps are quite low and are comfortable to climb).
Yerevan – Odzun – Sanahin – Haghpat – Yerevan
Depart from Yerevan to the region of Lori. Here we will visit the basilica of Odzun (IV c.). Continue to visit the monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin: two significant monasteries of medieval Armenian architecture of the X-XIV. These architectural complexes were the religious and cultural centers during the reign of Kiurikidis royal dynasty (X-XIII cc.). The monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin are among the first monuments in Armenia to be declared as World Heritage Site. Return to Yerevan. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel Yerevan.
Yerevan – Matenadaran – Geghard – Garni – Yerevan
Visit Matenadaran – the Institute and depository of ancient manuscripts which houses over 17,000 manuscripts. Afterwards take an interesting tour in the History Museum of Armenia. The museum houses over 400,000 artifacts from archaeological sites and monuments of various periods. From here depart for the region of Kotayk to visit the fortress of Garni (III c. B.C. – XIII c. A.D.) located on the edge of the picturesque gorge. It was a summer residence of the Armenian kings. Here you will visit the only survived pagan temple in Armenia dedicated to the God of the Sun Mitra. It was buitl in the 1st century. Continue to visit the Monastery of Geghard-Ayrivank situated in a spectacular deep canyon. It was founded in the fourth century by Gregory the Illuminator. The monastery is famous for its rock chambers and is a masterpiece of the Armenian architecture in the XIII c. According to the tradition the holy spear was kept in this monastery. The monastic complex is protected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Return to Yerevan. Farewell dinner, cultural program with a mini-concert. Overnight at the hotel in Yerevan.
